The August 19 - UPDATE August 19, 2005 UPDATE – Recovery, Training, and Encouragement It’s hard to believe that on April 6th I was just one breath from death in University Hospital in Denver and today, Jan and I ran twelve miles in preparation for the Disney Marathon in January. God has blessed me to make some great strides in recovery and healing for which I am very thankful. Psalm 9:1 I will thank you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. Psalm 141:8 I look to you for help, O Sovereign Lord. You are my refuge; Although things could be better as I feel the side effects from various medications, I am thankful to continue to make progress in my training – running, cycling, and swimming. I was able to swim 1000 yards this week as 20 X 50 yards. Previously, I could not swim farther than 25 yards at a time. Jan and I really enjoy our time together for our Friday long runs as we train for Disney. The pace is much slower now, due to my condition, than when I trained Jan back in 2000 for the Gulf Beaches Marathon. I must have pushed her too hard because she is always saying how refreshing it is to train together for this race. Of course, I am the one holding her back now. The past two weeks we have completed twelve miles and increased our speed each week. It’s been cheering to see the number of people who are joining the "ONE BREATH FROM DEATH – LOOK WHAT GOD CAN DO" team. We hope to make a great impact with team shirts and singlets for participants at the Disney Marathon and Half Marathon in January as well as at other races between now and then, including the Arnold Palmer Miracle Miles 15K on September 3rd in Orlando. Dr. Gwen Huitt called to get permission to use the pictures and story from these updates in a presentation to physicians, encouraging them to "never give up" as they work at finding a diagnosis and treatment for the patients. We never thought my story would be used like it is, but thank God, He can find a way to bring good out of even the darkest moments in life. 1 Timothy 1:12 How thankful I am to Christ Jesus our Lord for considering me trustworthy and appointing me to serve him, Thank you for continuing to pray for my healing – we appreciate your encouragement. Godspeed, Bob and Jan Brubaker |
