February 4, 2006 UPDATE – The ICTN Triathlon Camp Report

Last weekend, Jan and I had the privilege of being part of the first International Christian Triathlon Network (ICTN) Triathlon Training Camp in Phoenix, AZ. My good friend for more than ten years, Lincoln Murdoch, did such a wonderful job of organizing along with a host of people from the Phoenix area and from around the country. I was a fantastic weekend.

Lincoln asked me to share my story on Sunday morning, which was a combination of the ICTN Triathlon camp and All Nations Church that he and his wife Jennifer planted 22 months ago. Wow - what a great service! Triathlon professionals Heather Gollnick and Jamie Whitmore shared their testimonies and I shared my "ONE BREATH FROM DEATH – LOOK WHAT GOD CAN DO" story. God was surely in the place and people left with a great impression of the greatness of God.

Deuteronomy 32:1-4 "Listen, O heavens, and I will speak! Hear, O earth, the words that I say! [2] My teaching will fall on you like rain; my speech will settle like dew. My words will fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants. [3] I will proclaim the name of the Lord; how glorious is our God! [4] He is the Rock; his work is perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!

The trip was a great test. At the airport, I found myself back to slinging our bags including my bike case. That may not seem like much but it was the first time for over a year that I have been able to do that. God has been good in healing my body and giving me good signs of recovery. The workouts in which I participated also gave me evidence that God has blessed me in the return to be even stronger than I was before I got sick. If not for a pain in my gut from a hernia in my upper abdomen that has developed as a result of the "blow up" and the weakness of muscles that followed from the large doses of steroids, I would be almost back to normal and beyond. It’s unbelievable how good my SATs are looking (Oxygen saturation level) and my PEEK FLOW readings are as I test five or six times a day. Jan and I thank God everyday for His miraculous healing in our lives. He has been so good we just want to tell everyone.

That is why we are asking our friends to pray for outlets for my story to be told. I have sent my story to Guideposts magazine and I am trying to get in the Ironman Triathlon World Championship race in Hawaii this year. Both platforms along with others we are seeking each day will be great opportunities to tell my story and give God the glory. Please pray for open doors.

I have resigned as pastor of Winter Park Church so I can devote my attention to ministering to athletes and others in this area and around the country. I have begun a coaching business (see www.powerbreak.org/coaching.html) and Jan and I are in the beginning stages of planting a church (see www.powerbreak.org/xtremeliving.html). In addition we are following a vision of expanding the PowerBreak ministry to new heights in the coming year (see www.powerbreak.org/vision.html) and hope to have a PowerBreak presence at a good number of athletic events in the coming year. Wow! It seems larger than life doesn’t it? Looking back over the past year – LOOK WHAT GOD HAS DONE. If God can do that – taking me from one breath from death to where I am now, just think of what He can do for us and for you.

Thank you for praying for Jan and me and for following these updates to see what God is doing. Isn’t He great?

As you review the things that God has done in my life, please know that God is there for you too. If you have questions about a relationship with God or you would like prayer as you go through a difficult situation – feel free to contact me. (bob@bobbrubaker.com)

Godspeed,

Bob Brubaker
