October 1, 2005 UPDATE – Another Milestone In The Healing Journey

It’s been a week of good news from my doctor and the results of a CT Scan and Pulmonary Function Test. Dr. Feibelman was quite impressed in the way my body is responding. My CT Scan showed continued improvement in my lungs and my pulmonary function test results were almost that of a "normal" person. It has been just about six months since my "one breath from death" experience in Denver, now look what God has done and continues to do.

If not for a continual pain in my side and stomach from the second chest tube that was inserted to save my life back in April, I’d be making even greater progress. Still, Dr. Feibelman and Dr. Worthen have been impressed at the way I have increased my training. Last week I rode 125 miles on the bike, ran 18 miles, and swam 2000 yards. Although, I am not "nearly" back to Ironman training, I am thankful that God has blessed me to make the increases in distance and speed. Both doctors agree that my training has been very good to keep my airways clear and improve my general status, especially the side effects from medications.

1 Chronicles 16:8-9 Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. [9] Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his miracles.

Jan and I had a great day training for the Disney Marathon. We covered 14 miles on Friday, spending some good quality time together while preparing for the January 8th race.

It’s been a blessing to see the formation of our "One Breath From Death – Look What God Can Do" team. There are over thirty people so far who will be running in either the full or half marathon at Walt Disney World as part of our TEAM. We hope to have even more representation and are thankful that the Team is proudly displaying the shirts while racing and training. For information about the TEAM – see www.powerbreak.org. We are thankful for each participant helping us get the message of hope in the story of what God has done for me -think of what He can do for you.

Mark 10:27c … "Everything is possible with God."

God has been good in answering the many prayers on our behalf and we are thankful to Him and for each of you praying and encouraging us. It’s still a long journey but we are counting on God to see us through. Thank you for praying and for your encouragement.

October 8, 2005 UPDATE – Encouragement From My Doctors

God’s healing process in my body continues to shine as my doctors marvel at the progress I am making. I ran with Dr. Feibelman on Wednesday in the rain. We had a blast trudging through puddles of water and dodging traffic early in the morning. As we recovered, Dr. Feibelman asked if I had considered starting a "One Breath From Death – Look What God Can Do - training group" which started my thinking and has resulted in a Wednesday morning group training beginning this Wednesday (10/12) at 6:00 a.m. at Winter Park Church. - Thank you Dr. Feibelman. I heard from Dr. Scott Worthen from National Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Worthen said that my progress has been so good that I do not need to come to Denver for my October check-up. He is pleased with the way my body is responding and is planning a continual decrease of my medications.

Dr. Scott Worthen & Bob

Both of my doctors have emphasized how pleased they are with my training and for the need for me to keep it up. It helps to keep my airways clear and keep the psuedomonas bacteria from making a home in my lungs.

Jan and I completed a 15 mile training run yesterday in preparation for our participation in the Disney Marathon on January 8th. Our Friday morning long distance training sessions have become a special time for us, even though we have to fight through the various pains that go along with marathon training.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 You've all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. [25] All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You're after one that's gold eternally. [26] I don't know about you, but I'm running hard for the finish line. I'm giving it everything I've got. No sloppy living for me! [27] I'm staying alert and in top condition. I'm not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.
