I
need your help with IRONMAN FOR LIFE – see Bob’s request for your help below.
FCA
Endurance – Clearwater has been
formed. See below for information. ----------------------- “IS HE IN YOU?" Several years ago Gatorade ran an ad campaign,
“Is it in you?” It was a
very compelling ad that made you think unless Gatorade was in me, I’d
have no way of finishing the race. I couldn’t help but think of how the premise for
Gatorade in you is quite applicable to really having God in your life
verses not really having God in your life. As the Gatorade ad implied, the
more you exercise the more you need Gatorade to replenish the needs of
your body, so the same application applies to our spiritual needs for God
the more we go through life. Picture an athlete treating his or her need for
Gatorade the same way we often treat our need for God. Once activity
begins the athlete begins to dehydrate and the electrolyte balance within
the athlete’s body begins to get out of balance.
If the athlete neglects drinking Gatorade or some similar
electrolyte replacement, the symptoms of dehydration will begin: flu like
symptoms of aching joints, headache, nausea, etc. The symptoms can be
ignored but will only get worse. The symptoms can be treated by taking
some pain killers, stomach aid, etc. but the problem will remain until
electrolytes and fluids are replaced. Too often, our spiritual need of an imbalance in
life, leaving God out of the picture creates symptoms of discontent,
anger, or other acts of the flesh as the Bible calls it. When we feel bad,
we often deny our need and try to keep going or do something to cover up
the situation. Often people turn to entertainment or even abusive
tendencies. Sometimes people blame others for their problems. It’s
amazing how we point to everything other than what we really need: God. When we are willing to admit that God is what we
need, we are on the right track as David described the real feelings of
his heart this way: Psalms 42:1-2 (ESV)
As
a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. 2
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I
come and appear before God? God has promised to stay with us and never leave us
but too often we neglect keeping in touch with Him, taking Him in, and we
develop symptoms of weakness and worry. God in His grace is constantly
reaching out to us. Isaiah 55:1-2 (ESV)
"Come,
everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come,
buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and
your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and
eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. God is the only way we can make it through life. Is
He in you? 1 John 4:4 (ESV) Little
children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is
greater than he who is in the world. Godspeed, Bob

am participating in Ironman FL on November 6, 2010. More important than
the 140.6 mile race is my participation in the Janus Charity Challenge in
which athletes use their participation in the Ironman event to raise money
for charity.
